Grandfather Mountain, Nature on a Whole Different Level

Pinl-shell Azalea in Bloom

The rare pink-shell azalea is now blooming on Grandfather Mountain. Native only to the high-elevation spruce fir forests of Western North Carolina, this beautiful pink azalea is one of the rarest blossoms on Earth. The world's largest population of the Azalea vaseyi is found on Grandfather Mountain and will be putting on one of the best shows of the year through the third weekend in May.
